While experimenting with texture and trying a new palette the Madonna appeared. All I had to do was define the different forms with lines. I loved the sketchy feel and left them unfinished. Paintings ring a bell before you start overdoing. This painting helped me get rid gradually of the mathematical precision of my academic training as an interior designer.
The painting pays tribute to the breastfeeding Madonnas, popular before the Renaissance.
Elhamy is an Egyptian artist and teacher with 45 years of professional experience. He works in a variety of media, including painting, drawing, graphic and interior design, and wooden toys. He is the owner of Graffiti Artistoys, a graphic arts studio located in Maadi, Cairo, Egypt. He also owns a workshop for the production of educational toys and materials, and is co-owner of Box of Wonders (Sandouq el Agab), a shop selling folk-inspired wooden toys and automata in Fustat, Cairo. Elhamy recently moved to Los Angeles, California, to be near his children (and adorable grandchild) and looks forward to exploring new opportunities.
